April 28, 2011 - MEGADETH, IRON MAIDEN AUCTION ITEMS HELP RAISE $940,000 FOR JAPAN
An auction of exclusive personal items and memorabilia donated by EMI's family of artists and songwriters — including Iron Maiden, Megadeth and Alice In Chains — has raised $940,000 in funds to help the Red Cross support people affected by last month's earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The charity auction, which launched on eBay's worldwide sites on April 5, attracted bids totaling $470,000 from music fans around the world. The "Big Four" bands of 1980s thrash metal — Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax — were presented with double-platinum plaques for the two-disc DVD release of "The Big Four: Live From Sofia, Bulgaria", containing footage of the June 22, 2010 Sonisphere cinecast from the Sofia, Bulgaria leg of the touring rock festival featuring all four groups. April 24, 2011 - 'BIG FOUR' BANDS PERFORM 'AM I EVIL?' AT INDIO CONCERT
The "Big Four" of 1980s thrash metal — Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax — performed on the same stage for the first time ever in the United States yesterday (Saturday, April 23) at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California in front of a capacity crowd of more than 50,000 fans. The highly anticipated performance of all four bands at the same time happened near the end when members of Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth joined Metallica on stage for a cover of Diamond Head's "Am I Evil?". April 23, 2011 - 50,000 PEOPLE EXPECTED AT TODAY'S 'BIG FOUR' CONCERT IN CALIFORNIA
According to Bruce Fessier of The Desert Sun, a sell-out crowd is expected to attend today's (Saturday, April 23) "Big Four" concert at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. The show, featuring the biggest names of 1980s thrash metal — Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax — is permitted for up to 55,000 people by the city of Indio, but a sell-out may actually be closer to 50,000. April 7, 2011 - MEGADETH AND IRON MAIDEN JOIN EMI AUCTION FOR JAPAN RELIEF
Megadeth and Iron Maiden have added items to an EMI artists auction benefiting the Red Cross's Japan earthquake and tsunami aid efforts. Megadeth's donation to the auction is a guitar signed by Dave Mustaine. Iron Maiden have donated exclusive artwork signed by the band and a set of drumsticks used by drummer Nicko McBrain.
