On This Day in 1986 - Peace Sells Video Shoot

On a run of fall dates to the Midwest, Texas and East Coast we stopped at the infamous L’Amour of Brooklyn, New York where we shot our first music video for the title track from Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying.

We filmed band footage all day before our show that evening, and also included some of the live footage from that evening’s performance as well. The video was directed by famed New York artist, Robert Longo.

Fun Facts: Due to the strobing effect toward the end of the video, which was reported could cause epileptic seizures, the video was banned in the UK.
Also, the opening scene of us walking across the stage was a plug for our new Nike endorsement that we had courtesy of Capitol Records.

I was at L'Amours for this video shoot. A friend and I went to meet the band in a small record store in Brooklyn with about a hundred other people. Dave was not in a good mood but my friend had told Gar we drove from Jersey to meet them and he thought that was cool. You can make up for it anytime Dave. Anyway they came out after and told some of us hanging around that they were shooting a video and we should go to L'Amours if we wanted to be in it. At L'Amours they filmed the band on stage first. The cameraman had it right up to Dave's face for the beginning. Then they filmed us from the stage while playing Peace Sells. I waited for the video to come out and when it did I was nowhere to be seen even though I was in the front. Crushing defeat for the 17 year old metalhead. Now thanks to technology I was able to find half my face at 1:55. After the shoot we got kicked out and came back later for the show. I was in the front row on the right side of the stage. Everyone was headbanging and a huge mosh pit as usual had formed. After the show you were so sweaty that your money was wet in your pocket. It was an amazing show and a day that I will never forget.
